Round Anvil on a Stand
Round Anvil on a Stand
Lionel made this round anvil when he was teaching himself how to use a high-powered arc welder as a metal cutting tool.
He cut the circular top for this anvil from a solid square slab of steel ten-inches across and two-and-a-half inches thick with a pre-drilled one-inch hole in the centre.
He then welded this to part of a truck axle hub and mounted it on a stand using an automobile brake drum as a base.
The pipe extending out the side, is a handle for carrying or steadying it (if necessary) when it is use - positioned low down to keep hands clear of the anvil's striking surface.
On one occasion, he used the hole in the centre to hold a tapered-end shoe last.
